The Big Lie Taught By Society
(& How To Avoid It)
As a child, I didn't understand adults.
They seemed to be stressed almost all the time:
Complaining about money
Creating problems out of nowhere
Overlooking their health
I thought that this could be a side effect of just being an adult and having responsibilities, but this wasn't the case.
Growing up in my 20s, I realized that most people's problems are a side effect of untapped potential.
So, I decided to start observing society as a whole and discovered a common problem:
People don't choose their own path, it's chosen for them.
When this happens, a sense of unfulfillment grows slowly as the years go by.
We could say that this is not a big issue until you see the long-term consequences it has:
People becoming depressed (even when they have money)
Professionals with degrees but zero passion
The regret that comes from not developing your potential
One could even say that this is how life works, but is it?
Unfortunately, not everyone realizes that life is more than just a paycheck.
But that doesn't mean it has to be this way for you and me.
There's a path to follow that brings true joy to our lives.
“Social conditioning can be a tool for survival, but if we allow it to dominate our minds, we can miss out on the depth that life has to offer.”
Organization is important.
It's fascinating to see how there are people for everything:
Builders
Doctors
Engineers
Policeman
We need a society that is organized, where we help each other grow as individuals. We wouldn't be able to survive alone.
This is what we call a structure, and we need different people with different roles to operate within the structure.
This is why young people are encouraged to develop a role through a University career.
Without any experience - or not even knowing what to do at 18 years old - young people rush their most important decision for their future.
It's so difficult to decide without previous experience, but we make the decision anyways, hoping that the role we choose is the one we like.
Very few get lucky and are happy with what they do.
But most people realize that the decision they made wasn't the one they wanted.
There’s a chance to realize this early enough to quit.
But for most people, the years go by, and it becomes too late:
There are families to feed
There are bills that need to be paid
There's a life that needs to be sustained
And here's where the most common problem in society is created: people with roles they don't like but have to do anyway in order to survive.
The Negative Effects Of 'Society Thinking'
“We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them.”
The big lie isn't really about not teaching how to choose your own path.
It's more about not being taught to experiment and to problem solve.
It's good that schools teach us the fundamentals of life.
The problem relies on emphasizing that getting a degree is the only path that guarantees a successful life - or at least a secure one.
We are taught to memorize, not to think.
Following the traditional path makes people comfortable and get used to getting paid to cover their survival needs.
But something happens as the years go by:
They start to feel a sense of unfulfillment, uncertainty, and lack of meaning.
To hide this feeling, they can fall into bad habits:
Excess of junk food
Excess of entertainment
Alcohol & Drugs
Quick sex
Gambling
With these things, people become distracted and almost completely disconnected from their true potential.
The money problem can be solved, but no one understands how to truly solve the emotional, mental, and spiritual issues that come from being distracted.
Only those who become aware enough can see that this is a clear call to seek the truth.
Truth Is The Only Thing That Matters
The truth is simple but requires a lot of discipline.
Consider truth as the thing everyone should be doing to have a fulfilling life:
Having boundaries & values
Taking care of their health
Nurturing their mind with quality information
Being creative
Helping others
If we were taught to experiment, improve ourselves, and start testing the things that we truly want to do, the structure of our society would be exponentially better.
But since that's not the case, we must be smart and do it ourselves.
Not taking the courage to create your own path can result in frustration and confusion.
I realized this after observing my oldest brother come back home after work.
He is stressed almost all the time (and his wife too), and I can clearly see that this is a consequence of the path they chose in life (or were told to choose).
They have a stable job:
They have nice cars
A nice house
Decent lifestyle
But purpose and meaning are nowhere to be found.
I have observed several times how they create problems out of nowhere.
They're good people, but most of the time, they're in a bad mood, and their children get affected.
The family as a whole gets affected.
The same happens to my other siblings and parents.
They take pills to fix health problems that can be addressed by following the truth of taking care of your health with good habits, for example.
I see it everywhere: the life that people have is a direct result of how far or close they live with truth.
Truth is the thing that matters the most.
That’s why it’s essential to have it in our lives, but there’s only one path that allows us to do so.
Entrepreneurship: The Ultimate Path Towards Personal Growth
Everyone's mission should be to develop truth from their unique situation in life.
If you observe your environment closely enough, then you would see that most people's problems can only and truly be solved with truth.
Unlike a career role that only guarantees money and material things, entrepreneurship offers a different path.
Entrepreneurship is the thing that allows you to become good at problem-solving.
Entrepreneurship uncovers your emotional, mental, and spiritual issues, and you must overcome them in order to grow as an individual.
You first recognize a current problem
You leverage truth to solve it
You then can help others as well
With entrepreneurship, you must get creative enough to craft the life that you want.
It's about self-discovery
You get to deeply understand yourself and others
It's where you find true meaning and purpose
You see, unlike having a normal job, entrepreneurship is not only about money.
Some creators and entrepreneurs get this wrong; they focus on the money - and that's good - but most do it in ways that don't encourage people to get closer to the truth.
This is when you see business owners making a lot of money but feeling empty inside.
Other entrepreneurs and creators haven't worked enough on themselves and yet expect people to buy their products or services.
But the rules are simple: the ones who are closest to the truth are the ones who win.
Not only in terms of money, but in terms of wealth as a whole:
Good relationships
Inner peace
Financial abundance
Time freedom
Great health
Isn't this the purpose of life?
To be able to have autonomy and create the reality that you want?
I'm forever grateful for the social structure, and I understand that we need people for everything; otherwise, we wouldn't be able to survive.
But we have to be aware of the distractions we all face and how they affect us and our future.
Experimentation and problem-solving allow you to achieve great things, but only when they allow you to develop truth.
If there's one thing you can do for your life, it is to live as truthfully as possible, to reap the best results for your existence here on earth.
Start experimenting and solving your problems. Seek to understand how to leverage truth in your life, because the closer you get to it the better your life will unfold.
Others will see the commitment in whatever it is that you create (with good intention), and they would love to follow your lead.
You just need to show how true you are to yourself and the things you do.
I loved writing this letter and will for sure do more on this topic.
There's still a lot to uncover, but as I improve myself, I will continue to share more insights.
Thanks for reading,
Pablo.
