the best business model lie

(& why creating your own model is better)

I’ve been working on something these past 2 weeks.

Something I’m really excited about.

It’s about the guide I wish I had had when I started out.

But the reason why I started this guide is that I noticed that there’s a lot of confusion online.

Every day, we see new gurus with incredible lifestyles that seem perfect.

We wonder how they got there, how they are making millions, and how it seems so easy for them.

At first, we can get inspired, but then this inspiration can turn into frustration because we don’t know how to start:

  • There are a lot of options

  • AI is taking over

  • How do we make that first step?

At some point in my life, I thought that choosing a business model was the only way to change my life for the better.

“Focus on the money first, and then your purpose.”

The problem for me was that the “focus on the money first” made me stuck.

I discovered that something won’t work as you want if there’s no meaning beyond the money.

And this idea of most of the business models we see online is just an illusion.

The ‘Best Business Models’ Lie

Here’s the thing:

Most online gurus will present the business model that worked for them (in their specific situation) as the best thing anyone can do (in the general situation).

The truth is that most of them are just trying to make money with their programs.

Most of them just try to sell to the masses without caring too much about the situation of the people who follow them.

Even though this is not bad, they still don’t talk about the big picture of what’s behind a business model.

From my perspective, I want you to see the big picture.

This way, you can decide what’s best for you based on where you are right now.

The Problem With Online Business Models

The problem with most business models is the confusion they create.

We see amazing lifestyles and feel wrong if we aren't making $10k after trying business for 3 months like most of these young guys did:

  • We don’t know if we should start an agency

  • Or an E-com business

  • Should we start a personal brand?

I have people on DMs who have told me they've been trying to make money online for 3 years, but they feel bad because they don’t see progress.

What they don’t see, though, is all the discipline, self-development, and insights behind figuring out your purpose.

Even I sometimes feel bad when I see guys like Iman Gadzhi - who’s the same age as me - making millions at just 24 years old.

But as I talk with my twin, we can see the amount of progress we’ve made over the past 3 years to install a whole different mindset in our family, and that takes time.

Sure I haven’t made millions, but the amount of clarity I have is priceless.

I’m now more than clear on what I want to do in life and how I want to help people.

And I want the same for you.

I want you to get clarity by doing work that makes sense to your situation, knowledge, and resources.

At the end of the day, it isn't about the business model but about the person behind it.

The Advantage of Creating Your Own Model

I think most business models will work against people in the long term since creating your own model isn't just better - it's a smarter strategy.

When you create your own model, you don't have the uncertainty that comes from starting with a business that needs capital to start.

You have control over your resources like time, money, and energy, and you build something meaningful that makes sense to who you are (right from the start).

If I had known this before, I wouldn’t have wasted a lot of time:

  • Sending thousands of cold DMs to people

  • Jumping from one model to the other

  • Working for an agency that had no values

I'm so fascinated by how people like Dan Koe have built a business model around their interests and perspectives.

Doesn’t the idea of being paid for being yourself make sense to you?

But to do that, we need to start from your uniqueness, because improving your situation and getting experience is the business model itself.

On the other hand, I see people trying a business model that doesn't make sense to their situation; they're losing money on the process, and frustration makes it easier to quit.

The Way Forward

I'm not saying that business models are bad (I think most gurus are helping people around the world improve their lives).

What I'm suggesting is to choose a model that aligns with your situation.

It's way better when you don't force yourself to try a business model, on a model where the success comes from you getting better every day.

With this in mind, here's how you can build your model:

  1. Start with who you are and your story. Just write down what you've done.

  2. Based on this story, what advice would you give to your younger self?

  3. Now, turn that advice into a structured guide.

  4. This will give you so much clarity on what you can do to build a business online:

    1. You can either build a brand and product around your expertise

    2. Or you can start something from scratch, like learning a skill that you can monetize (it's what I did with video editing)

  5. Either way, I believe building an online business around your interests and perspectives is the best model in the long run.

These past 2 weeks, I've been working quietly on a guide that explains how to do this more in-depth.

I'm still working on it, but I will send an email and post on my Instagram once it’s ready.

Just keep in mind that between all these business models and success stories, these gurus had to adjust the way they were doing things.

Also, not all of them are truly happy after getting the money - as they have mentioned before - so why not focus on a model that will give you fulfillment right off the bat?

Well, we do that by building a model that not only could bring money but also meaning to our lives.

Pablo.
