How To Find Meaning In A Simple Plan
(The Life Project Model)
"If you fail to plan, you are planning to fail"
Failing is planned.
Success is predictable.
Most people live in a comfort zone, and that's why most don't feel the need to have a plan.
This why we see average lives everywhere.
But what if we don't want an average life?
What if we don't want to conform to the norm and let other people have control over our outcomes?
If we want an outstanding life, we must plan our success in life and make it predictable.
A plan can give us direction and clarity and allow us to create a life of autonomy.
But having a plan is not enough, there's an extra ingredient.
You see, most plans are generic.
It happened to me 3 to 4 years ago.
I had a personal plan that I thought was good, but I still couldn't get the results I wanted in my life.
For 3 to 4 years, I was stuck.
As I talked to other people, I realized that this was happening to them as well.
Despite all the self-development books and YouTube videos that talked about planning, I was still failing.
A couple of years ago, I realized what I was missing.
I was missing the single most important thing that any personal plan must have:
A Life Project.
Why Most People Are Average
"…to think and grow rich it requires intention, but to think and go broke it only requires neglect."
Life is already difficult.
But when you go through life with no meaning, it becomes way more challenging.
Have you seen how difficult it is for people to leave bad habits and implement good ones?
We all know the truth.
We know what are the things that can make our life better:
Exercising
Eating healthy
Educating ourselves
Being proactive
It is clear to us that we fall into old bad habits and end up having average lives. Why is that?
After observing myself and others around me, I have realized that this happens for one reason:
Most people are not intentional with their lives.
Most people neglect to have a meaning behind their actions, therefore, they drift through life just like a leaf is carried by the wind to whatever direction.
But we must be strong enough so distractions don't carry us to a life of regret.
The Pain Of Discipline
When you know why you are doing the hard but good things, the pain of discipline becomes enjoyable.
Your excuses won't convince you
You don't rely on motivation only
You go from surviving to thriving
If you lack a strong intention, hitting the gym becomes hard, starting that business becomes hard, and learning the new skill turns into an "I'll do this later when I have time".
The lack of a strong why in your life makes your brain ask: Why am I doing these hard things in the first place?
So it ends up convincing you to take the easy route:
Parties
Procrastination
Endless entertainment
The brain craves to conserve its energy, so when it doesn't find a strong reason why you're doing hard things, it will do its best to keep you lazy.
This is why most people have average lives.
They might go on the diet for a while, but their identity remains the same.
There's a way, though, to build intention in your life and be able to use the pain of discipline to your advantage.
The Importance Of A Life Project
How cool would it be not to force yourself to do things?
Wouldn't it be fascinating to go through life enjoying every step?
Challenges
Fails
Wins
Rewards
What if I told you that there's a way to turn your life around and flow with life?
We mentioned that having an intention behind your actions is essential for us to do the hard things even when we don't feel like.
The hard things (aka truth) will allow us to create a life worth living.
But an intention needs clarity and direction.
The way we build clarity and direction in our life is by crafting our own Life Project.
The Life Project Model: 3 Steps To Build Your Own Project
1) Define a Clear Vision & Goal
Your Life Project starts when you can see the big picture of what it is that you want for your life.
I'm not talking about superficial things, I'm talking about the type of life you would feel truly fulfilled with in terms of:
The work you do
Your lifestyle
Your relationships
This is the vision you visualize every day. It's your north star.
Alongside this vision, define a clear goal that makes sense to who you are right now.
For example, my goal as of 2025 is to make $100k at the end of the year.
This goal makes me wake up every single day and put my brain into work mode.
It gives meaning to my life because right now, $100k is the number that makes sense.
Plus, these goals allow me to focus on learning the skills that will take me there.
2) Create A Plan With Clear Steps
When your vision and goal are clear, you can start to create a plan.
This plan should match the resources you have at hand so you can use them to start moving in the direction you want.
The time you have
The money you have
The courses, books, and information on the Internet
Leverage these things to build a plan that can help you reach your goal.
If my goal is $100k in a year, then my plan will have:
Creating impactful content
Learning to be proactive with my time
Creating products and offers for my audience
I'm just laying out the foundation here and recognizing the things that I can potentially do according to the resources I have.
After we create our very first draft of our plan, we must assign clear steps that we can take on a monthly, weekly, and daily basis.
For me, some of the steps to make $100k are:
Writing content everyday
Testing my own frameworks
Creating offers around my expertise
Testing my offers
Repurposing my content
There are obviously more steps, I'm just sharing an example of how these things match the resources I have at hand (expertise, time, audience).
3) Forget About The Goal, Focus On The Steps
Now that we have created the big picture of everything, we can focus on the leverage tasks.
The leverage tasks are the little things you can work on daily to move towards your vision.
Here is where we focus on the steps:
The learning everyday
The implementing
Creating stuff that works for you and others
The good habits and implementing truth in your life become way easier when you have a vision behind your actions.
Your life becomes intentional, your brain is not lazy.
I wake up every day excited to write, create content, create resources, and help people because all these tasks highly support my vision.
I don't think about the $100k; I only think about getting the essential daily things done.
In your case, going to work and making money from it to invest in yourself:
Your skills
Your knowledge
Your health
This can be the smartest move that not everyone is willing to do.
Focus your days on the leveraged tasks and steps, and detach yourself from the outcome.
Become good at doing the steps daily because that's the only thing that moves us forward.
Match Everything Up
Match this plan to your Life Project.
The difference between a plan and the Life Project is this:
The plan forms part of a Life Project, several plans can be part of one Life Project.
The Life Project is the big picture of your life, where you can see all the plans you have that move you to your vision.
I used a financial goal above, but if we aim to have an outstanding life, we must work on different areas of our life.
Plans can be created for your fitness, financial, spiritual, and personal goals.
You can then add these plans to the Life Project, and here's when your life starts to have huge meaning:
You wake up excited
You don't force yourself to do things
You start to enjoy the pain of discipline
You go from neglecting the truth to implementing it with intention in your life.
You start to build your character.
And when this happens, my friend, you can watch how your life improves exponentially over time.
That's it for this one.
